<span style="line-height: 19.32px;">One of our weaknesses as humans is the tendency to think that our past is like a fleeting puff of smoke, a short-lived remnant of our deeds. Perhaps this is not the driver for a continuance of actions done in error, but it surely accommodates them. The quicker we dismiss the guilt, the sooner we can move on to the next misdeed. We even declare to our own minds and to each other that our dark actions are acceptable, right, and even deserved.</span></div>

Over the last two weeks, I have periodically enjoyed looking at a book with lots of pictures of stonework. This morning I browsed a few pages of carved and etched stone. Fascinating! You can tell a story in the stone. Its a relatively permanent way to preserve our message. But I wonder if our past is more like a carving in stone than a puff of smoke. It is etched, done, recorded, and on display to Him who sees all. We have set our stones in the forest, to be hidden. It is safe there, we think. But the forest will burn, and all will be laid bare before Him, to whom we will have to give an account. Our history is etched. It is a despairing thought.</div>

But a New Stone has been set. On it is masterfully carved another story. Near the center of this historical stone is the the cross which bore Jesus, stained from His own blood. Then is depicted upon this stone another stone which appears to have been rolled away from the entrance of a tomb. I pause to ponder these etchings and also think of my own stones and the dark story that they tell. I look further on the stone and see a depiction of my stones. On it the Master Carver is there. The depiction shows me trying to fix my own stones. Nothing works. But as it depicts me looking to Him and He is pointing to the scenes of His crucifixion, I am depicted with arms stretched to Him. In the next scenes, He is washing my stones with His own blood. The surge of excitement to see the result overcomes me. His blood is the only agent that is capable of dealing with my stones. Knowing what I have done on my own stones, I am drawn to look back at my own real stones. It has been a while since I looked. All the guilt and shame that once overcame me when I would look back, is no longer there. To my exhilaration, they have been washed, cleaned by the blood of the Master Carver. He loved me so much as to come and clean my stones. I am awed by His Love. I could never have cleaned my own stones. My tools cannot alter those stones. But now it is done.</div>

As now I have the opportunity to walk with the Master Carver each day, I often pause and thank Him for what He did for me. He reminds me:</div>

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1</div>

But as I look around, I still see many whose stones depict their sins. They are laboring with all kinds of things to try to fix them. Some have turned to Eastern meditations, some have turned to the moon god, who disguises himself in various forms as an angel of light, deceiving many into Islam, Freemasonry, and even straight out Satanism. Some have pursued a false savior who looks like Jesus, but they are still left to their own devices.</div>

There is power only in Jesus to have your sins forgiven. All others are impostors claiming to have the solution and drawing you into their grips. Ultimately, those grips are from the father of lies, Satan, whose natural language is lies, spewed out all over the world to deceive many into false hopes. There is but a little time left in this age of God's grace where you can have your sins forgiven, your stones cleaned, if you will. The Master Carver calls us to turn to Him, to believe in Him. He will keep His word.</div>

<span style="line-height: 19.32px;">Music is a very mathematically quantifiable field. In this realm of our existence, generally the nature of sound that we can hear involves frequencies in the range of 20Hz-20000Hz. But how those frequencies can be combined with various amplitudes and rhythms to produce a whole myriad of unique and interesting types of sounds is awe-inspiring. That God would gift us with this capability to hear and discern music and voice is truly a blessing.</span></div>

In the intimacy that we share with our spouse or parent or friend, we often take for granted that we can distinguish them by their voice characteristics or even their style of footsteps. You may have seen moments where deaf people have been given devices that let them for the first time hear their loved ones. The emotion and tears are often uncontrollable. But what if our lives are like that. What if we have lived in this world and never before had the sense of knowing God? What if suddenly, this sense was awakened in you, how would you react?</div>

The Lord Jesus has a “song” that has been playing in His creation since the beginning. But for all of us, it has been obscured by our fallen nature and that of the resulting fallen creation itself. We don’t recognize the song. Rather, we hear a noisy and confusing song, which often drives us away from the notion of knowing the Creator. In fact, we may hate the possibility of His Existence and Presence so much that we shake our fist at Him. We are listening to the noisy chaos of our own song, and we have derived some form of pleasure from it. We are scared to not listen to it, for we don’t know what will happen without it.</div>

But what if in the midst of that painful noise, a song emerged that for the first time caught your attention. What catches your attention is that the song is playing with the same struggling tune that you have been hearing in your life. That song speaks of the painful circumstances that Jesus endured after having given himself in service to so many people around Him. But the song takes a sudden turn into the most despairing tune you’ve ever heard. That the Creator of the Universe has been subjected to the same horrible song that has been ringing in your head grabs your attention. But then something happens. The song has stopped. In the midst of wondering what is happening, you realize that Jesus died. With it, He ended the song that has been troubling you. The dramatic pause is so suspenseful, for now there is no song playing at all.</div>

When all seems lost, the most beautiful song becomes discernable to your ears. It is a curious song. It is a new song. You are immediately filled with the desire to not let this song get away, for you never want to breathe another breath without it. It is a song of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. The song speaks of His irresistible love for you. It speaks of never having to fear again, even in the midst of dire circumstances. It speaks of life, like you have never heard before. It promises eternal life with the Musician playing the song.</div>

No thing from this world is of any true value as you sit in the presence of the Musician playing the beautiful song. Suddenly you are aware that you are not alone listening to this song, for surrounding you is a group of others enjoying the song. After some time, the Musician calls your name and asks you to play the song as well. You are concerned that you will mess it up. But he assures you that if you keep listening to His song, you will be able to play it. Others are playing it as well, and this encourages you. Of course the old instruments that you liked to play music with are worthless in this new song, because they are not able to produce the notes and sounds. You find yourself learning more and more of the song. Its intricacies seem endless. Your purpose in life becomes clearer. Your goals have changed. You are now more aware of what goes on around you. As you continue your life, you share the song with others, but you quickly realize that they are listening to their own horrible songs. You play it carefully and respectfully that others might finally hear. And you ask the Musician that He might allow them to hear it as well. It is a beautiful song. It is now even irresistible. It is the song of True Love.</div>

made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the
heavenly places, according to the eternal purpose which He

writes of several grand topics in this rich passage. Let's look at

are key phrases here that help us to discern some of the fallacious
arguments made by runaway scientists.</span></div>

recent trip to the “2<sup>nd</sup> & Charles” bookstore with
my family, I went to the physics and science section and almost
immediately picked up a book to preview. It was a book from a secular
atheistic scientist who scoffs at the notion of Special Creation. I
dug in to read his opening conclusions and discern his premises. The
book presented his version of the concept of the “Multiverse”. In
simple terms, the Multiverse theory suggests that our Universe is
just one in a sea of many, many universes. Our universe just happens
to have the right “settings” for physics and chemistry to produce
the place and the means for life, evolving from simple chemicals to
simple creatures, to more complex critters, and finally and
eventually the whole way up to you and I. The theory promotes that
many other universes might exist with different “settings”, which
might not be able to produce life, but ours did. It sounds very
fantastic, and in a time when people love the imaginative ideas that
man comes up with, there is a “hope” that this might further our
understanding of existence and meaning and purpose.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arimo, sans-serif;">But let
us examine this idea more closely. Why would there be a need for such
a theory? First, the current mainstream astrophysics academics look
into the stars and interpret the data to say that our Universe is
expanding from a Big Bang event. They theorize that all matter and
energy were concentrated into a very small point that erupted into
our Universe. At that beginning point, it is challenging to say what
was going on in the theory. But the question of what was before that
point is what is so tricky. Did the point come from nothing? Or was
there something prior that precipitated it. The objection to the
“nothing to something” is that it leads immediately to a “why”.
Why would nothing burst into something with all the rules and all the
means to form us? Where would the rules come from? From a purely
naturalistic worldview, this would require a big amount of “faith”
(or else it is merely an imagination to rattle around in your head
until you go into oblivion).</span></div>

this dilemma, some scientists have been suggesting that the
Multiverse is the explanation. But this obviously begs the question
of "How did the Multiverse come to be?"</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arimo, sans-serif;">Let's
play the fool a minute and suppose that we accepted their
naturalistic theory. The consequences are then that there is no God.
But to be honest, one would have to accept that there is no ultimate
meaning. “Why”, you ask with your inquisitive mind. Let's start
with the other end of the theory... The Big Collapse. In similar
thinking to the “what goes up must come down” idea, the Universe
will some day collapse into a point again, or just simply run out of
energy to allow anything useful. Both of these results lead to a very
bleak result for man (or whatever we would evolve into). Annihilation
means that there would be no lasting remnant of our existence.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arimo, sans-serif;">As a
result, we could argue that mankind would never be able to persist.
All meaning, effort, toil, learning, and whatever mankind would come
up with would simply be destroyed. Whatever efforts we attempt to
establish could not resist that destruction. Hence it is all
meaningless.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arimo, sans-serif;">But
wait... our imaginative friends suggest that this is the very reason
that we must pursue this in science, so that we can figure out a way
to overcome the Big Collapse or Big Fizzle and heroically persist our
existence! Sounds like a great movie, right?</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arimo, sans-serif;">Ready
for the kicker? Are you sure you want to read it? Here it is: In a
naturalistic universe with this theory, you cannot guarantee that
there is a means to persist. There is no cosmic force that is
fighting for us. There is no way of knowing whether it is possible to
survive the collapse or fizzle. There is no happy ending that can be
ensured. The laws of existence would not be driven by any mind or
overseer. Even if you overcome this hurdle, there is no guarantee
that the next hurdle could be overcome. There is no one to reveal
ultimate meaning to us. There is no guarantee of ETERNITY.
Additionally, each individual who dies would be gone and never
realize the end result. They might be remembered, but would have no
means to relish the remembrances of others.</span></div>

a sigh of relief and return to reality... recall that the Apostle
Paul said by revelation that God created all things and that there is

the humanistic, evolutionary, Big Bang, Multiverse theory puts man as
the potential hero with no guarantee. Mankind would always attempt to
aspire to use his imagination for new ideas and efforts, but at the
end of the day, it could all be gone.</span></div>

Christianity comforts us that God is the Hero through Jesus Christ to
rescue man for his eternal purposes, which include us. Its a promise
from the Self-Existent one, who declared to the Jews in His plan that
“I AM THAT I AM”. This suggests that God Himself is the Framework
for His own Existence. This is an awe inspiring bit of information.
We obviously have a hard time comprehending this in our current
existence. This is part of why the heavenly beings are crying out
“Holy, Holy, Holy”. But God promises that “we shall be like
Him, for we shall see Him as He is”. Do you long for that
transformation? Are you ready to enter into the things that God has
planned for us?</span></div>

imagination has not yet come to the ideas of what God has planned for

sounds like the makings of a really good movie, Right? Oh, but it is
reality!!! Praise God! In the spirit of Pascal's wager, I say that I
believe in Jesus, the Christ, who is God incarnate, and that Jesus'
sacrifice of Himself for our redemption from our sinful state to His
glorious resurrection to realize His eternal purposes, is ultimate
reality. But for those who choose to reject Him now, they are left to
their own imagination and if they are honest, their own destiny into
it's oblivion. I shudder to think of what the reality of separation
from God for eternity would be like. I prefer to patiently wait for
the Revelation of Jesus Christ and occupy until then. Will you join
in the Eternal celebration of Joy, or be satisfied for the temporal
imaginations of man?</span></div>

Will you lament with me over the lost
son, who has left his father and squandered his inheritance? He has
said “I will break with the reasoning of my father, and I will do
it as I will and in the way that seems right to me.” To the
amazement of all their neighbors, the son left in a pompous march,
celebrating his new found “freedom” from his father's
corrections. This was not the first wrong choice that the son has
made. On the contrary, it has been a slow descent, further and
further from the will of his father. And yet, the son's path has been
marked with points of blatant disobedience. Many who watched warned
the son, others cried out that the son should return the inheritance
and just leave, while others still encouraged him to take the
inheritance so that they could join him in his celebration. The
father knew the impending consequences of such actions and warned his
son. These consequences have been clearly demonstrated by others in
history. But he never imagined that it would ever happen... his son
has left reason and dignity and has chosen to make a way for himself
and others to indulge in unfit pleasures at the expense of the
inheritance from his father. The father and all his friends will hope
for the son to come to his senses and return to sanity. Many of the
father's friends have volunteered to go and rescue his son before it
is too late. The son refused all of their help and is determined that
he will make his own way.</div>

So, as you can extend your imagination,
the father and son here are representative of the government of the
founding fathers of the United States of America, while the son
represents the government of those in the latter half of the age of
this nation. The father's wealth was from the concentrated efforts of
Christian Liberty that birthed the nation and formed the foundation
for government for greatness in this land. The founders often
recognized the dangers that loomed in the future if the government
should fall under control of corrupt people. They understood that
this irresponsibility could come about if the people themselves
failed to elect righteous men, and that this could happen, if the
people began to be ignorant of the Creator, who endowed men with
their rights.</div>

So in this latter half of the age of
the nation, a few of the failures of the government pertain to the
extending of the Supreme Court's bounds to become a
“Super-Legislative-Executall” power. So from a time at the
beginning where the founders recognized that the Supreme Court could
have its opinion, they would ignore its decisions because it was not
the Legislative branch and certainly not the Executive branch. Now,
it appears that the Supreme Court is assuming those powers, and the
people don't know any better. The attacks upon the Christian
principles over this period include Education (promotion of
macro-evolution, and attack on school prayer), Parenting (abortion),
and the Family (degradation of traditional marriage, by the inclusion
of homosexual “marriage”). These were enacted for the benefit of
the minority rather than the protection of the majority. Just a
reminder, the nine jurors on the supreme court are not elected by a
ballot presented for the vote of the people.</div>

There are those who confuse the
personal grace that is offered through Jesus Christ with a supposed
need for the government to not deal severely with offenders. In other
words, those who found the government recognized that the duty of
government was to punish the offender. But they also demonstrated
grace in encouraging the offender to repent and pursue God's
forgiveness before they were to soon meet Him face to face via
capital punishment. So in today's mixed up sentiments, they would
accuse Thomas Jefferson of homophobia. Jefferson recommended
castration for a man caught in sodomy. So rather than punish such a
man, today's government has not only declared it to not be wrong, but
now has legalized a “marriage” license for it.

Then there are those who would say that
references in the Bible to “homosexuality” refer to those acts
that are performed against someone's will or without love for the
other person. Just because two people consent to a crime does not
make it right.</div>

So today, we have leaders (Supreme
Court Justices, and at least one President) who must read the
founding documents without understanding the authors' intentions (nor
the Creator's). Consider this portion of the Declaration of
Independence:</div>

“We hold these truths to be
self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed
by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these
are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these

powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of
Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the
People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government,
laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in
such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety
and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long
established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and
accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed
to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by
abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long

folly of a few to be legal and part of the “pursuit of Happiness”,
while ignoring that the Creator's given right to pursue happiness
does not include the degrading of their bodies in homosexual

Today's justices must believe that the
term “Creator” means whatever each person wants it to be, whether
it be “Evolution/Big Bang” of the atheistic worldview, or “Allah”
of the Islamic worldview, or “Self” of the satanic world view,
but certainly not only the “Creator” of the Judeo/Christian
worldview, who was in the original intent.</div>

I would like to share the passage from
1 Corinthians 6:9-11. It offers clearly the consequences of sin, but
also suggests the remedy:</div>

“Or do you not know that wrongdoers
will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the
sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex

swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of
you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were
justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of
our God.”</div>

of America, and I will not lay down to let it fail. I will work and
wait for the return of the son who has strayed. I will live
courageously as a citizen, a husband, and a father. But foremost I

this age of Grace before this world enters into the age of God's

Your honest educated answer will reveal your world-view. At the core of your answer is whether or not you believe that God's final creative acts during the creation were to make man and woman, breathing into them His breath of life. He granted them the means to reproduce after their kind, human beings. Only mankind was created in God's image. Man is special among all the creatures. The Psalmist declares the relationship of the pre-born with God:<br /><span style="font-style: italic;"></span><blockquote><span style="font-style: italic;">For You are He who took Me out of the womb, causing Me to trust while on My mother's breasts. I was cast on You from the womb; You are My God from My mother's belly. </span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">(Psalms 22:9-10 MKJV) </span></blockquote>He also declares:<br /><span style="font-style: italic;"></span><blockquote><span style="font-style: italic;">For You have possessed my inward parts; You have covered me in my mother's womb. The same Hebrew word for “cover” is used to describe the protection of important objects and principles, as well as His protection and defense of his people. God holds the pre-born children in a very special place of protection. We should too!<br /><br />From the time that you were conceived, all of the necessary information to form you was present to begin the development of your body. Recently, in one of my classes at St. Clair Correctional Facility, a student referred to the child at an early stage as a “blob of cells”. I interrupted my student to address that phrase. If he thinks that the baby is just a “blob of cells” then the student himself is still just a “blob of cells”. If the baby is just a blob of cells, then he/she is equivalent to any other growth within the body of the mother. This is an argument which has permitted the “Pro-Choice” folks to choose to eradicate those cells, even if the next day, those cells would have been born a “baby”.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Redefining “Pro-Choice”</span><br />The real choice is made before intercourse. “Pro-Choice” should be defined as the “choice” to proceed with intercourse knowing it may produce another person. In other words, make your “choice” before the life of another person is involved.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Moral Laws</span><br />From a recent online article, there was a picture of a woman holding a sign declaring “Keep your laws off ..." presumably "my body”. Does she really mean that? Without laws to protect her, she could more easily become the victim of rape, abuse, and murder. Moral laws are good. The moral laws of protecting a baby's rights are meant to protect mother as well. She will be protected from the mental anguish and guilt of an abortion, and she will be protected from the eternal consequences of choosing to destroy her own child.<br /><br />The same picture showed another woman holding a sign, “I regret my abortion”. But following up one atrocity with another is not the right solution. The mother will be reminded of the tragedy that took place throughout the pregnancy, birth, and subsequent life of the child. But in reality, would the mother be any less tortured by the rape or incest while also feeling the guilt of having aborted the child? We must understand “forgiveness” and “hope” in order to proceed. But our culture has come to ignore these God-given entities. Rather some prefer to hold on to the hatred and bitterness. Some seek to find healing in death and destruction (abortion), rather than in forgiveness and hope. We can change as we look to Jesus’ example of forgiveness and follow Him.<br /><br />We are not looking to place blame or cause guilt on persons for deeds from the past. Rather, we offer life-giving hope that will produce great rewards for individuals and our land.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Conflicting Laws</span><br />An inmate at St. Clair Correctional Facility handed me the laws of our land demonstrating a dual standard about the pre-born child. Currently, if a pregnant mother is murdered, the murderer can be charged with a double homicide, one for mother and one for pre-born child. At the same time, two people, mother and abortionist can plot and execute the murder of the unborn child via an abortion, legally. Premeditated murder is more severe an offense than one that is not. How is abortion different from a woman and her lover plotting to kill her husband? He is an inconvenience as well! This is despicable. The reader should be bothered severely at this contradiction. We need moral laws that are consistent in protecting the life of the pre-born child.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Illegal Abortions</span><br />In a recent discussion a person lamented that in the removal of legal abortion people would resort back to dangerous and illegal ways of ending their pregnancy. The laws would again indicate that such activity is on par with murder - abortion would be a criminal act. So we see that there is an urgent need to teach God's word concerning the value of human life. Without the mindset of the people being turned toward life, abortions will continue. Personhood is not just about ending abortion, but is also about educating people of God's promotion of life.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Alabama v. “Roe v. Wade”</span><br />The recorded words of the judges and lawyers in the 1973 Supreme Court decision known as “Roe v. Wade” indicate that if the unborn child was protected as a ‘Person’, then the case for legal abortion would have been very difficult to defend. We have gone nearly 40 years and have aborted over 50 million babies, making very little progress towards defending the lives of the pre-born. But now there is more hope. If we return to the pursuit of establishing these children as 'Persons' with the unalienable rights that you and I enjoy, we can protect them from destruction.<br /><br />Such a pursuit is beginning in Alabama. The Constitution Party of Alabama hosted a small meeting in Birmingham in 2010 to share what was going on in other states in the “Personhood USA” movement. Then in February 2011, The Foundation for Moral Law (Honorable Roy S. Moore, President) hosted a meeting to ignite the effort in Alabama. I attended both meetings and met some wonderful people who are determined to share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ from person to person by means of promoting a proper knowledge of the preciousness of life in the pre-born. Cal Zastrow and others shared the vision of the 'Personhood USA' organization to help each state make law for the protection of the unborn as 'Persons' from the point of fertilization forward. This drive has two key elements. First, design and submit the correct wording for the Bill to account for the nuances of each state's existing laws. Second, gather the people's signed opinions (in other states, known as petitioning) to submit to the government leaders of the state, reinforcing the public opinion about the importance of protecting the pre-born children’s right to life.<br /><br />This understanding of personhood needs to be taught in our homes, churches, schools and media. This country was established by the preaching of righteousness throughout America’s churches to the people, who then fought and gave their lives for our freedom. It is now our turn to fight for the freedom of our children.<br /><br />Wake up Alabama! They were declaring the holiness of God, but they were saying that the earth is full of the result. So what might one expect to see on Earth as the result of the holiness of God?<br /><br />I believe that one expression of the holiness of God on earth pertains to the detail of the creation. As we look around us, we see beauty. Just as God beheld His creation and declared it to be good, so we, made in His image have been granted a mind to reason the same. Is beauty in the eye of the beholder? This verse points out that the glory of the Lord is on the earth despite how man beholds it. This logically leads to the question of how each man beholds the earth. One man beholds it with awe and gives glory to the Creator. In fact, the deeper he looks, the more he is compelled to give God more glory. Another man beholds it and does not give it much thought. Still another man beholds it and puts it in his unsatisfactory box. The latter seeks to add something else to the picture... his own imaginations or that of others... namely, in this age, Biological Macro-Evolution.<br /><br />Sadly, this is a picture of our culture in the current day. There is a prevailing mentality that seems to pursue more and more in the imaginations of man's own heart without stopping to give thanks to God. Let me illustrate this with an example from science. Recently at an ICR event, Dr. Randy J. Guliuzza, P.E., M.D., gave an excellent presentation of the human reproductive system and the complex system that God created to make it possible for you and I to be born. Filled with awe, the crowd, in heart and with voice, declared praise to God. But for the evolutionist, this is just part of Grey's Anatomy, just another process that must exist as part of the Darwinian Evolution Imagination. The end result is the unknown, a god of evolution. The unknown is the draw. Once something is known, they stick it in the books and follow on to the next unknown. This process will continue indefinitely since they are in constant rejection of the truth... that behind all of the intricacies, all of the wonders of the unknown, is the Almighty Lord, maker of Heaven and Earth.<br /><br />You can see the two paths of scientific discovery emerge. The Christian worships God for each discovery and how it shows the glory of God in the earth. He is inspired to continue the pursuit of the unknown, while seeking God's help. Why, because he knows that God knows. On the other hand, the evolutionist has the sense of man's conquering of knowledge... that somehow, he is unraveling the mystery to one day sit atop of it all. The result should be evident... The Christian worships God, while the evolutionist exalts mankind.<br /><br />Here is the irony... in the end, it is the "foolish", by this worlds standards, those who choose to give God glory and to believe in Him, who will be lifted up to God. They will "know" as they are known by God. They will enjoy the Creator who they gave glory to and experience God's eternal presence. On the other hand, those who reject God will be given a place, where they can sit atop of what they gave glory to... the unknown and self. Possibly, they can worship self and the unknown forever, each by himself.<br /><br />At the start of this new year, the choice is before us all. Who will we worship? The project was a success. The team was great, and God blessed us with safety as the house got up pretty high. No, not Crime Scene Investigation. I'm talking about CSI for building walls? Likey, you should not have, because I just made it up. Essentially it is the title I am giving to my basement walls that my wife and kids and I created using concrete and EPS insulation. ICF usually come in some type of block of Styrofoam or EPS that one can stack to form the house walls and then pour full of concrete. The blocks are already engineered to fit together and provide flexibility with corners, curves and other wall features. The form becomes part of the final wall and provides a great R-value for insulating a home. Though I have not tried it, I think two people could easily setup the walls. But there are a few issues that I have with it that deterred me to try something different.<br /></span><ol style="font-family: arial;"><li>Price - the blocks are pretty expensive</li><li>Finishing the inside - You need to still finish the inside with another material<br /></li><li>Finishing the outside - You will probably want to finish the outside with another material</li><li>More price - Even after the blocks being expensive, you still have to pay for the above interior and exterior finishes</li></ol><span style="font-family:arial;">So in a quest to try something different, Shirley and I decided to try pouring our own concrete walls with insulation embedded inside or sandwiched inside. And that is the more commonly know term, "Sandwich Walls". Both inside and outside surfaces could be used as finished surfaces instead of having to add other materials! Our goals were to come up with a system that two people could assemble and pour without too costly of an investment in equipment. As a result, we went to Construction Material Wholesale in Birmingham to purchase plyform, a plywood with a black coating on both sides to protect from water and provide a smooth finish to the concrete. We bought:<br /></span><ol style="font-family: arial;"><li>16 - 4'x8' sheets at about $33 a sheet</li><li>2"x4'x8' at about $27 per sheet</li><li>#4 rebar in 20' lengths</li><li>100 - 1/2"x2' threaded rods with two nuts and two washers per rod</li><li>1/2"x10' PVC pipes</li><li>1"x2"x8' treated wood boards (0.75" thick)<br /></li><li>2"x4"x10' treated wood boards</li></ol><span style="font-family:arial;">We did the following to prepare for the first pour:<br /></span><ol style="font-family: arial;"><li>We drilled holes in the plyform panels to optimize the load of the concrete pressure on the forms. The horizontal spacing was 2' in the 8' length of the board (1', 3', 5', 7'). We used 16" vertical spacing (8", 24", 40") for the holes.<br /></li><li>We cut EPS panels and doubled them up (4") to fit between two plyform panels.</li><li>We cut PVC peices into 5" and 2.25" lengths.</li><li>We made straps from the 1"x2" boards and drilled wholes in them to match the vertical spacing of the plyform holes.</li><li>We assembled the formwork in place by putting threaded rod through first plyform, a 5" PVC, a strap, the 4" of EPS, another strap, a 2.25" PVC, and then the other plyform.</li><li>Once all 12 holes have threaded rods through, we put the 2"x4" boards laying across the rows of threaded rod on each exterior side of the plyforms.</li><li>Then we placed another set of straps on the outside of this.</li><li>Finally, we put washers and nuts on and tightened everything up to make it rigid.</li><li>We tied rebar on the 5.75" side within the wall cavity both vertically and horizontally.</li><li>We repeated this process, placing the next set off the end of the previous.</li><li>Once the wall is formed, we put end caps on and braced it up with some metal stakes at the bottom and some 2"X4" at the top down to the ground.</li><li>We framed a door opening inside the forms.</li><li>We put nailers and keyways in the form cavities.<br /></li><li>We poured it full of concrete to a height of 48".</li><li>We let the concrete sit a day or two and removed the 2"x4" boards, the rods, and the forms.</li><li>We cleaned the forms up some.</li></ol>We did subsequent pours:<br /><ol style="font-family: arial;"><li>We reassembled the forms with the bottom set of holes in the plyform lined up with the top set of holes from the previous pour and repeated the process to result in an additional 32" of height.</li><li>We repeated again (including door and window openings) for the final 32" of height to add up to 48"+32"+32"=112"</li></ol><span style="font-family:arial;">It took a good bit of time to form up for each pour. The higher we went, the more time consuming. There were a few things we learned along the way and would do differently if we were to do it again. First, we would ensure that the juice from the second and thrird heights did not run out onto the lower heights. Second, I would drill the holes in the plyform a little more accurately (I drilled through several at once and some of them shifted a little). This made it difficult occasionally to lineup the forms. Third, I would create a better gutter on the top for the next pour to lock into.<br /><br />Overall, we are satisfied with the result, and saved about $7,000 fomr the price quoted by a company that pours solid concrete walls without the insulation in them. One of those beautiful moments was on Tuesday morning of the annual We Care Prison Crusade. I took the team of men entrusted to me to minister that week up to our property to show them where we are living and to pray together before going into the prison. Shirley and I were not expecting what was about to happen. After a while of kicking the walls, climbing around, and looking out over the valleys on either side, I called everybody together for prayer. I shared that our property contains the centroid of St. Clair County, Alabama, and a few possible visions for how we might use the property to glorify God. We shared some prayer requests and joined hands to pray. As the sun poured warmth on us and a gentle breeze drifted through, the men began to pray. We were blessed as the men prayed for Shirley and I and the kids and this mountain on which we stood and call home.<br /><br />In a few moments of silence between the mens' prayer offerings, I heard what sounded like an eagle or a hawk in the surrounding air. You see, up to that point, we had seen and heard woodpeckers, buzzards, and small birds. I was moved to realize that the Lord had sent us such a beautiful bird to fly overhead and call out with us to Almighty God. Was I just hearing things? I did not see the bird as we were praying. I felt encouraged and determined. Those moments with these men of prayer, with my wife standing in support from behind, and my Lord pouring out blessings upon us were rich indeed. We prayed for the men in the prison, for the day was still ahead of us.<br /><br />Some men in the prison are too intellectual to see the value of the simply wonderful plan of God's salvation in Jesus. Some men are too scared to open up for they fear what may ensue. Some men love their sin too much to take hold of Jesus Christ. Some are even explicitly serving Satan. Some hold their life too important to waste on following Jesus. Some will lie to us just to get us out of their way. "<span style="font-style: italic;">But the <span style="font-weight: bold;">cowardly</span>, the <span style="font-weight: bold;">unbelieving</span>, the <span style="font-weight: bold;">vile</span>, the <span style="font-weight: bold;">murderers</span>, the <span style="font-weight: bold;">sexually immoral</span>, those who <span style="font-weight: bold;">practice magic arts</span>, the <span style="font-weight: bold;">idolaters </span>and all <span style="font-weight: bold;">liars</span>—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death</span>." (Revelation 21:8)<br /><br />But, thankfully, there are some in prison who delight in the Lord and they <span style="font-weight: bold;">receive </span>us who are coming to share and encourage in Christ. These men like the volunteers fit the following verses. "<span style="font-style: italic;">As you come to him, the living <span style="font-weight: bold;">Stone</span>—rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living <span style="font-weight: bold;">stones</span>, are <span style="font-weight: bold;">being built </span>into a spiritual <span style="font-weight: bold;">house </span>to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through <span style="font-weight: bold;">Jesus Christ</span></span>." (1 Peter 2:4-5)<br /><br />Yet standing before the Lord that morning, we were joined in unity preparing to enter the prison. Just a few evenings later, we would be standing with our arms interlocked with those believers in prison who do not think it shameful to bear the name of Jesus Christ on their lips and hearts. They bear their crosses to His glory. We stood with them, the rejected of society, and declared in our hearts in praise to God how awesome it is for all of us to know God's kindness and forgiveness for the sins of our lives that would have imprisoned us forever apart from God!<br /><br />So that hawk's call was a welcome sound, declaring to us the glorious freedom that is in Jesus. I hope that each volunteer was blessed through this crusade. I would like to express my gratitude to every one of the volunteers who came to Alabama for a week to enter into a spiritually dark place and be instruments for the glory of the Lord to shine from the heavens and reflect from our faces. Amen!<br /><br />As Shirley and I and the kids were driving on our road one day this week, we passed a spot where we saw the hawks. That verified that they were actually nearby. And then later they came again to fly over this place again. My wife, two children, two dogs, one fish and I pulled our travel trailer to the Gadsden, AL area. We stayed at Noccalula Falls campground for two months. During that time we searched the area for a place to live. We believe God showed us the above property and presented to us the opportunity to buy it. While we waited to settle for it and while we prepared it, we lived on the prison land for six months.
