A New Home

"Leave your land, your relatives, and your father's home. Go to the land that I will show you." (Genesis 12:1 GW)

In October 2007, I moved my family from Lititz, PA to Alabama to begin an assignment as an Assistant Chaplain at St. Clair Correctional Facility with We Care Program. My wife, two children, two dogs, one fish and I pulled our travel trailer to the Gadsden, AL area. We stayed at Noccalula Falls campground for two months. During that time we searched the area for a place to live. We believe God showed us the above property and presented to us the opportunity to buy it. While we waited to settle for it and while we prepared it, we lived on the prison land for six months. On Memorial Day 2008, we pulled onto the ridge of the land shown above.

"He moved on to the hills east of Bethel, and he put up his tent-with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east." (Genesis 12:8 GW)
We moved on to the hills east of Birmingham, and set up our camper-with Birmingham on the west and Ashville on the east.

"Those who live at the ends of the earth are in awe of your miraculous signs. The lands of the morning sunrise and evening sunset sing joyfully." (Psalms 65:8 GW)

We have enjoyed the sunsets on the ridge. It is a reminder of God's creative power and His great love for us.

  2. Hi there,
Your land is so beautiful! My husband and myself also have settled our own land and built our own place. It is exciting, thrilling, fullfilling, overwhelming and tiring all rolled into one! At times it puts you on your knees before God seeking his strength or knowledge over this or that. I have enjoyed every bit of progress Shirley has shared about your home progress and also have enjoyed getting to know her. I think you have a good lady by your side! Continue to enjoy your journey...seek God when you think you need too...but also when you think you don't! He is the one who carries us through all at all times! He is good that way...continued blessings to you and your family...
